Sacramento police: 15-year-old boy missing for two days has been found and ‘is safe’

Original Story:

The Sacramento Police Department, city officials and family members are seeking the public’s help to find a missing 15-year-old boy who was considered at risk because of his age and medical conditions.

The teenage boy was seen walking along the 3200 block of Truxel Road, just south of San Juan Road in the South Natomas neighborhood, police said in social media posts.

City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby, who represents the Natomas area, said in social media posts Tuesday that the boy had been missing from the neighborhood since around 4 p.m. Sunday.

He was then spotted around noon Monday near Loaves & Fishes on North C Street, just north of downtown, Ashby said.

The boy has high-function autism, is “very verbal” and frequently visits homeless camps, according to a flier shared by Ashby. His “disabilities prevent him from recognizing dangerous people or situations,” the flier says.

The boy’s parents joined Ashby and police officials at the City Hall lobby midday Tuesday, pleading for help from the community.

“He will charm your socks off,” the father said in a news conference, streamed live on Ashby’s Facebook page. “He will talk to you. He does not understand any ‘stranger danger.’ Everyone is a friend to him.”

He urged residents to be on the lookout while walking their dogs.

He “will approach every person with a dog and say, ‘I like your dog, may I pet your dog?’” the boy’s father said.
