Thieves steal $6,300 worth of building materials from Sacramento Habitat for Humanity
Authorities were looking for suspects who stole $6,300 worth of building materials after breaking into a Habitat for Humanity site intended to be affordable housing for low-income single mothers, families, seniors and veterans in Sacramento.
The theft occurred about 7 a.m. Wednesday a building site called Mandolin Estates, according to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento. The nonprofit organization said thieves broke onto the site and stole $6,300 worth of building materials.
“As a nonprofit that works hard to stretch every resource and dollar donated to provide critically needed affordable housing for low-income single mothers, families, seniors, and veterans, we are heartbroken to see this deliberate and coordinated theft of needed build materials from our jobsite,” representatives from Habitat for Humanity wrote in a Facebook post.
The nonprofit organization shared security camera video of the theft on Facebook and Twitter, hoping someone with information about the crime come forward and speak to investigators. The theft was reported to the Sacramento Police Department.
The video shows three pickup trucks arriving at the site Wednesday morning and at least four people get out of the vehicle to break open a fence around the property. Two of the pickups are then backed-in onto the site, and the suspects load what appears to be large pieces of wood onto one of the trucks and a trailer. The video then shows the vehicles leaving the area.
