1 man injured after suspected Sacramento road rage shooting
One man is injured after a suspected road rage shooting at the intersection of Auburn Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue north of Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to a call from the 4300 block of Orange Grove Avenue at around 8:50 a.m. Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Officers and medics arrived, and provided aid to a man. He was later transported to a hospital for treatment.
Sheriff’s officials said the man suffered at least one gunshot wound. A person of interest has been detained and he is cooperative, according to authorities.
This incident comes after law enforcement agencies have warned drivers about a recent rise in apparent road rage incidents.
Last December, Lufino Reyes Mejorado, a retired correctional officer at California State Prison, Solano, was shot and killed along Interstate 5 in Sacramento, after encountering another driver on a different freeway several miles away.
Law enforcement agencies reported eight violent incidents from Nov. 2 through Dec. 6 on highways in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties, some of which were related to road rage.
Following these shootings, the California Highway Patrol has warned drivers to not engage with aggressive people on the road.
“Don’t make eye contact. If they’re trying to pass you, let them pass. Let them be on their way and you maintain a safe distance from them,” CHP Valley Division spokesman and officer Eulogio Ceja told The Bee. “You don’t know if they have any weapons. You don’t know their mentality at that point.”
If you notice an aggressive driver following you or attempting to engage with you, Ceja said, stay calm and call 911.
