Sacramento County felon guilty of gun, theft charges. Here’s the new prison term he faces
A man was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and other charges — a case triggered after a Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy pulled him over in a stolen rental car, according to officials.
David Lee Williams, 40, failed to return the car for just over a month after agreeing to turn it back in the same day he rented it in February 2019, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said.
Prosecutors said that after a search of the stolen car, the deputy found a loaded .45-caliber handgun, a magazine with three .45-caliber rounds, about 3.4 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, and identification cards, driver’s licenses, credit cards, bank cards and checks in the names of other people.
In addition to the firearms charge, the DA’s Office announced Friday, Williams was convicted of vehicle theft and receiving stolen property.
Williams faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison at his sentencing June 24, according to prosecutors. They said that allegations that Williams has a prior 2007 and 2003 strike conviction for assault with a firearm will be determined at the sentencing hearing.
