Bicyclist struck by pickup in hit-and-run in south Sacramento County, CHP says

Police tape at crime scene

A bicyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run Thursday night in Sacramento County’s Vineyard area, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Two cyclists were riding in the northbound bike lane on Elk Grove Florin Road near Bridalsmith Drive shortly before 11 p.m. when one of them was struck by a four-door pickup truck also heading north, the CHP South Sacramento office said in a news release.

Following a preliminary investigation, CHP officials believe a white work truck, described as a Ford pickup truck with a model year between about 2008 and 2016, struck one of the bicyclists and then fled the scene.

The cyclist who was struck was taken to a hospital with major injuries, the CHP said. The other cyclist stayed at the scene and cooperated with CHP officers.

The CHP said the suspect vehicle being sought has a missing passenger-side mirror.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact CHP South Sacramento at 916-897-5600, or the CHP dispatch center at 916-861-1300.
