Man wounded in parking lot shooting next to California EDD building in Sacramento
Officers on Friday were investigating a shooting that wounded a man at a California Employment Development Department parking lot in Sacramento.
The shooting was reported to the Sacramento Police Department about 11:30 a.m. at 2901 50th Street in the parking lot adjacent to the EDD building at 5007 Broadway, just west of Fairgrounds Drive.
Security at EDD heard gunshots from the parking lot and found the man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his back, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol South Sacramento Area Office.
Sacramento police officers arrived and initiated the investigation, but CHP has taken over the shooting investigation since the crime occurred on state property.
CHP said the shooting victim, an 18-year-old Sacramento man, was taken by ambulance to a hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive his injuries.
Witnesses told officers two suspects wearing black hooded-sweatshirts ran north from the EDD parking lot and left the area in a yellow 2000s-model Chevrolet Impala, according to the news release.
CHP said no EDD employees were injured or involved in Friday’s shooting.
