Man arrested in Easter shooting that left 1 dead, 3 injured in south Sacramento
Homicide detectives arrested a man in connection with an Easter shooting that left one man dead and three other people injured in a south Sacramento parking lot, sheriff’s officials said.
Joel Tyrone Zeigler, 31, was arrested and booked Saturday into the Sacramento County Main Jail downtown on a charge of murder, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Zeigler is accused in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Robert Earl Daniel shortly after midnight on April 17, at a parking lot in the 7200 block of Franklin Boulevard, according to the news release.
The Sheriff’s Office in a previous statement said Daniel was pronounced dead at the scene. One other man and one other woman found at the scene were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
A fourth victim, who had life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle before first responders arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detectives identified and arrested Zeigler, who is being held at the downtown jail on one charge of murder and is ineligible for bail, jail records show.
The Sheriff’s Office said Zeigler “will also be charged with the shooting and injury of three other subjects during this same incident.”
Authorities in Sunday’s news release said Zeigler is “well known to law enforcement” and is on searchable probation through 2034, stemming from a 2022 case related to possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
Zeigler is due for an initial appearance in Sacramento Superior Court on Tuesday.
