Sutter County deputies and CHP break up weekend sideshow involving over 40 vehicles

Authorities on Friday night broke up a sideshow event in Sutter County, where 40 to 50 vehicles gathered for reckless driving and street racing along a rural road, sheriff’s officials said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol responded to the 4700 block of Garden Highway in Yuba City for reports of “reckless driving involving numerous vehicles,” the Sheriff’s Office announced Monday in a news release.

Deputies arrived at the scene, about a mile east of Highway 99, and found about 40 to 50 vehicles participating in a “side show or street drag racing,” sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies and CHP officers tried to pull over numerous fleeing vehicles, but pedestrians “purposely obstructed law enforcement by jumping in front of the patrol cars.”

Deputies arrested a 25-year-old Yuba City man on suspicion of obstruction of justice, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and officers also issued citations and had vehicles towed for various traffic violations.
