Missing elderly Roseville woman found safe; police determine she was not abducted
An elderly Roseville woman, who was missing since early Thursday and thought to have been possibly taken against her will by her adult nephew, was found safe, police said Friday.
The Roseville Police Department on Thursday afternoon asked the public to help find the then missing 72-year-old woman and her 39-year-old nephew. She and her nephew lived together with others at a home in the 1000 block of Coloma Way.
Police said at the time it was possible the nephew abducted his aunt, because they left their home unexpectedly about 3 a.m. Thursday. The Police Department released photos of the woman and her nephew captured early Thursday on a bank ATM security camera.
It was possible they were headed in a vehicle to Southern California or the Bakersfield area. At 12:15 p.m. Friday, the Police Department announced that the woman was found and she is safe.
Investigators found the woman and her nephew’s disappearance “extremely abnormal and suspicious” based on the information they had at the time and the details provided by their family, “ Rob Baquera, a Roseville police spokesman.
With help from the California Highway Patrol and the New Mexico State Police, investigators confirmed the woman was not missing. Baquera said the nephew was found with his aunt traveling, and he was cleared of any wrongdoing. The police spokesman said investigators determined that no abduction had occurred.
