Motorcyclist injured in suspected DUI had loaded gun, Northern California police say
A rider injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Saturday in Auburn was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and was carrying a concealed, loaded handgun at the time of the crash, police said.
Investigators determined the rider had recently departed the Gold Country Fair in Auburn before crashing around 6:45 p.m. near Auburn Folsom Road and College Way. The rider “had been consuming alcoholic beverages” at the fair, according to police.
“During our investigation of the collision, a loaded 1911 pistol was located at the scene, which had been concealed on the rider’s person,” the Auburn Police Department wrote in a social media post.
The rider, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries and was given a court summons for suspicion of DUI and a firearm-related charge.
The Police Department urged residents to designate a sober driver, or to use Auburn’s on-demand ride-share service — a shuttle bus that is available in the city from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends.
