A motorcyclist suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol after leaving the Gold Country Fair crashed near Auburn Folsom Road and College Way on Saturday, September 10, 2022, in Auburn, California. Police said they located a loaded gun on the rider’s person.

A rider injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Saturday in Auburn was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and was carrying a concealed, loaded handgun at the time of the crash, police said.

Investigators determined the rider had recently departed the Gold Country Fair in Auburn before crashing around 6:45 p.m. near Auburn Folsom Road and College Way. The rider “had been consuming alcoholic beverages” at the fair, according to police.

“During our investigation of the collision, a loaded 1911 pistol was located at the scene, which had been concealed on the rider’s person,” the Auburn Police Department wrote in a social media post.

The rider, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries and was given a court summons for suspicion of DUI and a firearm-related charge.

The Police Department urged residents to designate a sober driver, or to use Auburn’s on-demand ride-share service — a shuttle bus that is available in the city from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends.
