Roseville police arrest West Sacramento man after victim reportedly flees armed robbery

Officers arrested a West Sacramento man earlier this month in Roseville after a resident said they were held at gunpoint in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

The victim reported they were able to run away from the assailant and call 911, but the Roseville Police Department warned this week that resisting in an armed robbery raises the risk of injury or worse.

“In general, we recommend not resisting robbers. Your life is worth far more than any money or other property,” police said Monday in a Facebook post. “If you’re ever robbed, remain calm (not easy, we know), don’t resist or argue, and assure the robber that you’ll cooperate.”

About 9:30 p.m. Sept. 3, a person reported being robbed at the complex in the 1200 block of Antelope Creek Drive. Police said a man wearing a ski mask had pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money. The victim refused to comply and fled while calling 911.

Officers arrived in the area; one of them kept watch at the nearby intersection of Antelope Creek Drive and Creekside Ridge Court. Within minutes, officers spotted a man run to a parked car and toss a bag into the trunk.

Police said the man, later identified as 28-year-old Carlos Arreola Muniz, was sweating profusely and wearing clothing that matched the victim’s description of the suspect. Officers pulled over the car nearby.

The car was searched, police said, and a ski mask and a loaded handgun were found. Muniz was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The Police Department advised anyone held up in a robbery to make mental notes of the robber’s appearance, clothing, scars or tattoos and the sound of the suspect’s voice. Try to remember if the suspect touched any surfaces in the area, so police can look for fingerprints.

If the suspect leaves in a vehicle, try to remember the color, make, model and license plate number. Police said even a partial plate number helps investigators. Then, get to a safe location to call 911.

“We’re glad that the victim wasn’t hurt, immediately reported the robbery and was able to give officers a good description of the suspect,” police said.
