Oops: California cops easily find hit-and-run suspect after crash leaves impressive clue
A recent hit-and-run crash in Northern California left quite an impression.
After allegedly rear-ending his Ford F-250 pickup truck on Sept. 6 into a BMW sedan stopped at a red light on Roseville Parkway, the Ford driver fled the scene at a high speed, Roseville police said.
The suspect wasn’t hard to track down.
The collision proved so forceful that it left behind a clearly legible imprint of the Ford’s license plate number on the BMW’s rear bumper, the Roseville Police Department said in a Wednesday news release.
Front license plates are required in California and 30 other states.
Officers responded to the address listed on the vehicle’s registration, where they located the pickup and arrested its alleged driver, 33-year-old Demitry Mediucho.
A passenger in the BMW was ultimately taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Mediucho, of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in injury, felony hit-and-run and resisting arrest, the Police Department said.
He was booked into the South Placer Jail, where he has since been released on bail, according to jail logs.
The Police Department in its news release said that earlier the same day of the crash, the Rocklin Police Department had received a complaint about the same Ford being driven recklessly.
