Sacramento County nurse accused of abusing boy with cerebral palsy faces prison term
An in-home licensed vocational nurse faces more than three years in prison next month in connection with a 2021 arrest for endangering the life of a child with disabilities.
Edgar Burgion, 49, of Sacramento County, was a caregiver to a 13-year-old boy who had cerebral palsy, required 24-hour care and was highly reliant on the help of others, including Burgion, according to a news release from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
In November 2021, prosecutors said, home surveillance captured Burgion punching and “violently lifting and throwing” the victim in his bed. The teenager suffered multiple injuries.
Burgion was arrested in December 2021 on suspicion of six counts of child endangerment and one count of attempting to commit an offense because of a disability, according to previous reporting by The Bee.
After pleading no contest Friday to felony child abuse charges, he faces a three year, four-month prison term at an Oct. 14 sentencing hearing.
