Sacramento police learn of possible social media video of Del Paso Heights fatal shooting

The Sacramento Police Department on Thursday asked for the public’s help after investigators learned there might be video of a fatal shooting circulating on social media.

Investigators were seeking video, photos and any information about the Aug. 27 shooting death of Lawrence Jackson, a 67-year-old Sacramento man who was found fatally wounded by gunfire in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood.

“We are aware that there may be a video of the shooting that surfaced on social media,” police announced Thursday in social media posts.

The Police Department shared an online QR code that anyone can scan to submit video, photographs or tips anonymously to help detectives with the homicide investigation. The department also shared an online link to submit potential evidence in the homicide.

Police responded about 10:50 p.m. to a report that someone in the area of Harris Avenue and Fig Street had been struck by gunfire. Officers found the man, later identified as Jackson, with at least one gunshot wound, police said in a news release. Medics from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Police Department has not released any other details about the shooting investigation.
