Police investigating fatal shooting in Oak Park, the third city homicide scene in hours

Officers are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday in the Central Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, police said in a social media post, the third homicide incident in the city in 12 hours.

At least one person was killed, police said.

The Sacramento Police Department said on Twitter that a shooting took place near Sixth Avenue and 37th Street, but did not disclose additional information.

The shooting comes hours after back-to-back homicides took place Monday night at a South Natomas apartment complex and a North Sacramento neighborhood.

Those separate shootings left three dead.

In Oak Park, police vehicles and investigators flooded Sixth Avenue, shutting down the narrow street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 37th Street.

Homicide detectives gathered in the middle of the closed street exchanging information before spreading out through the residential block talking to residents as they try to piece together what led to the fatal shooting.

Nearby residents, after stopping at nearby Boss’ Market, walked to just outside the yellow crime scene tape to peek at investigators working. Even the owner of Boss’ Market walked over for a bit. He said he didn’t know what happened and declined an interview.
