Teen wounded in South Natomas shooting; Sacramento police seize guns, make arrests
Police say a Sacramento teen shot Sunday morning in South Natomas was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
A 16-year-old boy was injured in the shooting about 10 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Waterwheel Drive, just south of West El Camino Avenue. The teen’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Officers were investigating what led to the shooting.
On Monday afternoon, the Police Department announced officers had made six illegal gun possession arrests in connection with five incidents over 24 hours as they conducted proactive enforcement traffic stops and responded to a call for help. The charges did not indicate the suspects were responsible for Sunday’s shooting.
Among the six people arrested were a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, police said. The enforcement is part of the department’s violent crime reduction strategy. The arrests occurred about a week after a series of shootings in Sacramento, which investigators don’t believe are connected, killed five people and wounded one person in three days.
“Proactive enforcement is one part of the solution to reducing violent crime,” police said in social media posts. “Prevention and intervention efforts are a shared responsibility between us and the community as we work against this violence that affects us all.”
