Police tape at crime scene

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian after one of the cars involved reportedly fled police Friday afternoon in south Sacramento.

The chase began shortly before 1 p.m. in the area of Franklin Boulevard and 52nd Avenue, where an officer spotted a vehicle driving in the bike lane at a high rate of speed and running a red light, Sacramento Police Department officials said.

A preliminary CHP investigation identified Shasha Adams, 29, as the driver of the vehicle, according to police. After being treated at a local hospital with minor injuries, she was arrested by Highway Patrol officers on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police said when the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped away and the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

The vehicle was found at Franklin and 47th Avenue, where it had been in a collision with a female pedestrian and another vehicle, according to police. The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento Office at 916-897-5600 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357). Callers may remain anonymous.
