Sacramento man guilty of murdering wife in 2018 gas station argument faces life
A Sacramento man was convicted last week of murdering his wife on Halloween 2018 at an Antelope gas station and will face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Miguel Garcia Romo Jr., 42, was found guilty by a Sacramento Superior Court jury of second-degree murder and related firearms charges.
Romo fatally shot his wife, Shannon Hinojosa, during an argument at a Chevron station early the morning of Oct. 31, 2018, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a Tuesday news release. His gun was never recovered, prosecutors said.
Deputies located Hinojosa unresponsive at a small shopping center near Antelope and Roseville roads, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in statements at the time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
About six hours later, Romo was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 210 near Burbank, where a police officer’s license plate check revealed Romo as a wanted homicide suspect. Romo fled on foot and was apprehended by California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department officers, authorities said in 2018.
Romo is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 18 and faces life in prison. Allegations Romo has two prior strike convictions will be determined at sentencing, according to the DA.
