Man arrested after Grant High parking lot fight; homicide suspect still sought by police

Sacramento police have arrested a man accused of assaulting the victim in last week’s shooting at a Grant Union High School parking lot during a football game before the victim was shot, but said the homicide suspect remains at large.

Ronzell Belton, 18, was contacted Sunday by detectives and “is believed to have physically assaulted the victim with a firearm prior to the shooting,” Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Ryan Woo said.

“The primary homicide suspect remains outstanding at this time,” Woo said.

Police have said a man in his mid-20s was shot during a disturbance between about 20 people in a parking lot at Grant, located in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue in the city’s Del Paso Heights neighborhood, near the end of last week’s football game against Monterey Trail.

The victim was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Alfred Myah, 24. The Police Department said a private vehicle transported Myah to a hospital, where he died of his wounds.

Belton was arrested on a felony assault charge, Woo said. Sacramento County jail logs did not show Belton in custody as of Wednesday morning.

Sacramento and Twin Rivers Unified School District police said no students are believed to have been involved in the disturbance or shooting.

Grant plays another home football game this Friday against Laguna Creek.
