Man dies after being shot in Sacramento’s Valley Hi neighborhood, police say

A man was killed in a shooting Friday afternoon in Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood, police said.

Patrol officers responded shortly before 12:30 p.m. to the 7800 block of Center Parkway following a report of a shooting, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Chad Lewis said.

The officers arrived and found a 25-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound, police said. Sacramento Fire Department medics took the wounded man to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The wounded man later died, the Police Department announced about 4 p.m. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the man after his family has been notified.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation. They were working at the shooting scene Friday afternoon, looking for evidence and canvassing the area for witnesses.

No arrests had been made, and the Police Department did not have any suspect information available to release.
