A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run Wednesday morning in Elk Grove, police said.

The Elk Grove Police Department said officers responded to the area of West Stockton Boulevard and Whitelock Parkway after 911 calls reporting the hit-and-run around 5:15 a.m.

An investigation led the department to Michael Deon Brown, 54, as the suspect in the incident.

Police said they checked surrounding traffic cameras along with area Auto Mall cameras and saw Brown’s vehicle on the footage.

After further investigation, officers found Brown’s vehicle parked at a house in North Sacramento with a cover over the damaged area, police said.

Officers arrested Brown, who displayed “objective signs of impairment,” according to the department.

Police said Brown is being booked and arraigned at Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of charges including hit and run resulting in death, driving under the influence of a drug and violation of parole. His arraignment is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday.

At the time of the incident, police said Brown also had an active warrant out for his arrest for a previous infraction of driving under the influence of a drug. Brown is being held without bail based on his violation of parole.

The 62-year-old victim, a man, will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
