1 dead, 1 in custody after stabbing at south Sacramento board and care home, sheriff says

Homicide investigation

A resident of a south Sacramento board and care facility was arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing another resident early Friday, sheriff’s officials said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident, which happened shortly before 2 a.m. at the facility in the 6300 block of Orange Avenue, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said.

Glen Edward Doherty, 59, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail early Friday afternoon on a felony murder charge in connection with the stabbing. He is ineligible for bail, booking records show, and is due in Sacramento Superior Court on Tuesday.

The stabbing victim was also a 59-year-old man, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. His identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to the news release.

The facility has about six to eight residents, Gandhi said, and a caretaker at the facility reported the stabbing to law enforcement.
