Man detained after stopping truck at federal courthouse in Sacramento, FBI says

A driver was detained by federal law enforcement Thursday morning after allegedly stopping the cab of a semi-truck on the property of a federal courthouse in downtown Sacramento.

The FBI says he refused to move or exit the vehicle for hours.

The truck cab was “parked on a ramp on federal property” at the Robert T. Matsui Federal Courthouse at Sixth and I streets around 4:40 a.m., the FBI’s Sacramento field office said in a statement posted to social media just after 10:30 a.m.

“When contacted by federal security officers, the driver refused to move his vehicle,” federal authorities wrote.

The driver moved the vehicle off of the property and onto a public roadway around 7 a.m., but refused to exit it, according to the FBI.

After crisis negotiators with the Sacramento Police Department contacted the man, he exited the vehicle at about 9 a.m. and was detained by the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI and Police Department said.

The FBI said it was interviewing the detained man Thursday morning. It was not immediately clear what charges, if any, he will face, according to the FBI’s statement.

Sacramento police in tweets shortly after 8 a.m. said the department was “assisting Federal Authorities in the area of I Street and 6th Street regarding suspicious circumstances.

Police closed several roadways in the area due to the incident, blocking vehicle traffic from accessing Amtrak’s Sacramento Valley Station. All roadways have since reopened to traffic, except Fifth Street between H and I streets, police said.

Sacramento Regional Transit bus and light rail service was shut down at Sacramento Valley Station as well, SacRT said in tweets.
