Woman shot while driving on Highway 99 in south Sacramento area, CHP says

Police tape at crime scene

A woman was shot early Tuesday morning while driving on Highway 99 near south Sacramento’s Lemon Hill neighborhood, authorities said.

The victim was driving northbound on the freeway in a red Nissan Altima and was shot around 3 a.m. somewhere between the 47th Avenue and 12th Avenue exits, said Officer Mark Leavitt, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office.

The driver was “hit by gunfire” and was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Leavitt said.

It was not known whether the victim was an “intended target” in the shooting, Leavitt said.

No suspect information immediately available. CHP officials are investigating the shooting.
