Man seriously wounded in North Highlands shooting, Sacramento sheriff’s officials say

Police tape at crime scene

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives were investigating a shooting in North Highlands, where a man was seriously wounded after he was shot in the back.

The shooting was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 6000 block of Kemp Way in a residential neighborhood a few blocks east of Watt Avenue.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds that were considered life-threatening, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The wounded man was conscious and breathing when he was taken by ambulance to a hospital. On Wednesday, Gandhi said the victim remained hospitalized and listed in critical condition.

Detectives have determined the victim was walking along the street, when a vehicle pulled up and shots were fired. Gandhi said it was unclear to the detectives whether the shots were fired from inside the vehicle, or someone got out of the vehicle and fired the gunshots.

He said witnesses told deputies they saw two to three people inside the suspect vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office has not released any descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle.
