Investigation underway after bicyclist struck, killed by vehicle at Sacramento State

A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Sacramento State’s campus just before noon Saturday, the university reported.

Campus police responded to State University Drive near the American River and Guy West Bridge around 11:40 a.m., where officers discovered a man with major injuries, according to Brian Blomster, a spokesman for the university. He was identified as Charles Anthony Carlson, 49, of Sacramento by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on Saturday night.

Personnel with the Sacramento Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, Blomster said. Detectives with the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit will investigate the crash.
