Man killed in shooting on Alder Avenue in Sacramento County’s Vineyard area, deputies say

Gunshot fatality

Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a man who was shot in the neck early Wednesday evening along a road in Sacramento County’s Vineyard neighborhood.

The shooting was reported about 5 p.m. in the 9000 block of Alder Avenue, between South Watt and Hedge avenues. The wounded man in his 40s was found outside a home, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Gandhi said the man was shot in the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his name after his family has been notified.

Sheriff’s officials canvassed the rural area, searching for witnesses and security camera video that could help with the homicide investigation.

Detectives believe some type of dispute led to the fatal shooting. Gandhi said on Thursday that he did not have any suspect information to release and was waiting for an update from the detectives.
