17-year-old dies after gang-related shooting in south Sacramento, authorities say
A 17-year-old died Saturday after a gang-related shooting in south Sacramento.
The male victim was shot in the head around 6 p.m. in Vintage Park, according to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi. He later died from his injuries at a hospital.
Gandhi said the Sheriff’s Office believes the victim and his killer exchanged gunfire and that the shooting was likely related to gang activity.
A gun was found lying near the teen, but Gandhi said it is unclear who the firearm belonged to.
Gandhi said there was a confrontation between two groups of young people before the shooting.
Investigators are looking for six to seven juveniles or young adults, per witness accounts, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
