Detectives investigate homicide after man found dead in stolen moving van in Rio Linda

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a homicide in Rio Linda after a body was found Sunday in an abandoned moving truck.

Deputies found the body of a man around 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of I Street in Rio Linda, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. It was found in the back of a U-Haul van that was reported stolen Aug. 17 from a south Sacramento retailer.

Gandhi said deputies did not yet know how long the van had been parked in Rio Linda.

The man appeared to have been killed by gunshots. His identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The homicide is the second in Rio Linda in the last week. Deputies found a man inside a home on 14th Street who had died of injuries consistent with a homicide, the Sheriff’s Office said.
