Police are investigating a suspicious death Wednesday morning in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers with the Sacramento Police Department said they were requested by Sacramento Fire Department to the scene of a fire near Matson and Henrietta drives to assist with a body that had been found during the extinguishing process. Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:16 a.m. to put out flames from an exterior fire near the roadway.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office and Fire Department arson investigators conducted a preliminary investigation, after which police crime scene investigators and homicide detectives were summoned, authorities said.

“Based on the investigation, this incident has been deemed a suspicious death,” the department said in a statement.

The Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim pending notification of their family.
