The Placer County Sheriff’s Office welcomed its first K-9 officer certified to sniff out and detect explosives.

Stanley and his handler, Deputy Tom Lamb, will investigate incidents throughout the county through collaboration, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. They are part of the explosive ordinance disposal unit.

In one recent incident, deputies in that unit helped to safely detonate a homemade device left in Colfax.

Stanley is a 2-year-old Springer Spaniel, said Sgt. David Smith, a spokesman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

“Stanley is a fantastic addition to our team, and we’re thrilled to have this valuable asset enhancing safety in the region,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
