Lake Tahoe Unified substitute teacher under investigation after parent alerts police

Police tape at crime scene

A substitute teacher from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District is under investigation following concerns raised by a parent of a middle school student, as reported by authorities.

Lt. Scott Cirvelli, a spokesman for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, said that the investigation was initiated on March 27 after the concerned parent approached the police with concerns about communications between the substitute and a student.

However, the specifics of the allegation and the school where the teacher was employed were not disclosed. Cirvelli also refrained from commenting on whether the investigation focused solely on the teacher’s interactions with students or extended to his behavior outside of school.

South Lake Tahoe news reports said parents of students potentially affected by the incident at South Tahoe Middle School were contacted by both the school district and the police.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District, in communication with parents via email, hinted that the substitute teacher may have engaged in inappropriate conversations with students.

“It is our district’s steadfast commitment to create a secure environment for all students,” the district wrote to parents, according to news reports. “LTUSD will take proactive measures to reinforce appropriate staff-to-student interactions and will work closely with our students to help them recognize and report any inappropriate communications from adults,” the district said in the letter.

District officials did not respond to requests for comment.

Cirvelli said no arrests have been made.
