The California Highway Patrol arrested a Solano County man on suspicion of hit-and-run after investigators found the car they believed struck a bicyclist in Placer County.

The crash occurred about 4:15 a.m. Sunday on Industrial Avenue near Lon McAnally, just west of Highway 65 in an unincorporated area of Placer County between Roseville and Lincoln.

There were two bicyclists that morning on the right shoulder of the northbound lane of Industrial Avenue, less than a mile north of West Sunset Boulevard, the CHP Auburn Area Office has said.

A silver Nissan sedan drifted onto the right shoulder and hit one of the bicyclists. The CHP said the Nissan did not stop and drove away before authorities arrived.

The bicyclist hit by the car was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated after suffering life-threatening injuries.

That same day, the CHP released a photo of the silver Nissan sedan investigators believed struck the bicyclist. The CHP also released a possible license plate number for the car.

CHP investigators pursued leads, with help from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln Police Department and the Roseville Police Department. Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a silver Nissan Versa, and debris consistent with the vehicle was located at the scene, the CHP announced Monday afternoon in a news release.

Later on Sunday, CHP officers found the suspect vehicle in a parking lot of an apartment complex in Fairfield. The CHP said subsequent evidence led to the identification of a 28-year-old Fairfield man as the suspect in the Placer County hit-and-run. He was arrested on the hit-and-run charge.

Investigators asked anyone with additional information about this hit-and-run to call the CHP Auburn Area Office at 916-663-3344.
