Freeway shooting in Auburn leaves 2 injured; CHP seeks help from public in investigation

A freeway shooting in Auburn on Friday night left two people injured, California Highway Patrol officials said Saturday.

The shooting, which occurred around 9 p.m., took place on westbound Interstate 80 east of Maple Street in Auburn. Officials said potentially one or more suspects fired from one vehicle into another, leading to minor injuries for the two individuals.

The injured individuals called 911 and were transferred to a hospital. They are both expected to make full recoveries, according to CHP.

The incident is under criminal investigation.

“We want to assure the public that this appears to be an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat or additional risk to the public at this time,” CHP said in a news release.

CHP said there may have been multiple suspects and did not share demographic information in a news release.
