Sacramento police investigating homicide after woman dies following domestic violence call

Homicide investigation

A woman who suffered critical injuries in a domestic violence incident has died from her wounds, leading Sacramento police to request a homicide charge against her boyfriend, who was arrested late last week, police said Tuesday.

Officers were called just after 11:30 p.m. Friday to the 1400 block of Response Road in Sacramento’s Point West neighborhood for reports of a domestic violence incident and arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of attempted homicide.

The woman was unresponsive and rushed to the hospital in critical condition, said Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department. Officers learned Monday that she had died, Gamble said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the victim after notifying her family.

Suspect Rahyme Johnson of Sacramento was still in custody at the downtown Sacramento County Main Jail as of Tuesday afternoon. He faces three felony charges: attempted homicide, corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and endangering the life or health of a child, according to online jail records.

Johnson is being held without bail. His next Sacramento Superior Court date is scheduled for Wednesday.
