Man killed, another hospitalized after J Street shooting in midtown Sacramento, police say

Homicide investigation

A man was killed and another hospitalized after a shooting early Saturday morning on J Street in midtown Sacramento, police said.

Officers were dispatched just before 1 a.m. to the 2400 block of J Street for reports of a shooting, Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman Officer Allison Smith said.

Two men were located at the scene and taken to a hospital, where one of them died, Smith said. The other was in stable condition, she said.

Homicide detectives responded Saturday morning, but law enforcement had cleared the scene as of 10 a.m.

Smith said the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. No arrests were announced. The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after family members are notified.

The shooting happened on a stretch of J Street populated by midtown businesses.

Smith asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 916-808-5471.
