3 identified in fatal Hwy. 99 hit-and-run as DUI blamed for deadly weekend on Yuba-Sutter roads
Authorities have identified three motorists who killed Saturday in a Sutter County head-on crash as the investigation into a fatal hit-and-run Sunday near Marysville continued Monday.
Shane Loudermilk, 20, of Gridley; Ricardo Jose Soto Castro, 48; and Juan Diego Soto Castro, 43, were killed in the 11:40 a.m. collision Saturday in the area of Highway 99 and Highway 113 southwest of Yuba City, Sutter County coroner’s officials said Monday.
The California Highway Patrol said Loudermilk was driving a Dodge Challenger with four passengers, ages 21, 16, 18 and 18, south on Highway 99 north of the junction of Highway 113 when he drove the car over the highway’s paved center median and into the path of a Nissan driven by the 48-year-old Ricardo Jose Soto Castro.
Three passengers in Loudermilk’s car, a woman, 21, from Rough and Ready; a 16-year-old from Oroville and a man, 18, from Gridley, were taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for their injuries. A fourth passenger, 18, of Gridley, refused treatment at the scene, said CHP officials.
Loudermilk was not wearing a safety belt and CHP officials say alcohol or drugs were considered a factor in the wreck.
Meanwhile, the CHP on Monday was seeking the driver who struck an Olivehurst man Sunday killing him on a Yuba County roadway and were asking the public for any clues into the fatal collision.
On Sunday, the body of a 22-year-old pedestrian was found at 8:24 p.m. on Feather River Boulevard south of Algodon Road in Linda, the victim of an apparent hit-and-run. Officials from the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office did not release the man’s name, but said he was a resident of Olivehurst.
CHP, Yuba County sheriff’s deputies and Linda Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and tried to revive the man before pronouncing him dead. CHP officials believe he was struck by a motorist. No one saw the collision, according to the CHP, which said alcohol factored in the deadly incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office at 530-645-6200.
