A Sacramento father was arrested Wednesday in connection to the homicide of his 3-month-old son, police said.

Officers were called just before 10 a.m. Tuesday to UC Davis Medical Center on Stockton Boulevard after an infant suffering injuries was brought to a hospital by his mother, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release.

Medical staff rendered medical aid but the baby died at the hospital, police said. The infant will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once family has been notified.

Officers developed information that the baby’s 22-year-old father, identified as Miguel Jimenez of Sacramento, was a suspect in the death and he was detained at the hospital, the release said.

Police spokesman Officer Anthony Gamble said the incident leading up to the death is believed to have occurred in the 5300 block of 47th Avenue in south Sacramento.

Jimenez faces a homicide charge and was being held without bail Wednesday in the downtown Sacramento County Main Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Friday, according to jail records.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 916-808-5471 to the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
