Northern California inmate who escaped jail arrested at home after eluding authorities

An inmate considered dangerous who escaped from a Northern California jail, prompting an approximate month-long manhunt across statelines by at least eight state and federal authorities, was arrested Thursday at his home, authorities reported.

Caleb Lee Duerr escaped Plumas County jail Sept. 27 after he went through two fenced areas and caught a ride from a person at O’Reily’s Auto parts store in Quincy, according to the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities reported he “probably” changed his dark blue jail clothing.

His escape prompted a lockdown of a school in the Plumas Unified School District, Plumas County deputies said previously.

The manhunt included help from law enforcement authorities in Sacramento, Washoe, Plumas, Sierra, Butte and Yuba counties, the California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Forest Service along with helicopters and K9s.

Duerr eluded authorities for 30 days.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office found the inmate at his home in Jonesville in Plumas County on Thursday. It was not immediately clear what charges Duerr will face.
