Police tape at crime scene

Authorities are searching for a suspect who, amid a struggle Tuesday afternoon, stole a U.S. Postal Service worker’s keys that unlock west Roseville residents’ mailboxes, police said.

A post office employee out delivering mail was approached by a suspect wielding a firearm around 2:15 p.m. near Mockingbird Street, police said in a social media post.

The suspect demanded the keys, and after a struggle, took the keys, police said.

Those keys unlock all mailboxes in the 95747 ZIP code area, police said. The Roseville Police Department and U.S. Postal Service investigators are working together to apprehend the suspect.

In order to keep your mail safe, police offered the following tips:

Check mail daily.

Keep an eye out for important documents or checks.

Place a hold on your mail with your post office while on vacation.

Contact Roseville police for any suspicious behavior near mailboxes.
