Victims in Granite Bay double homicide identified as suspect’s mom and brother, coroner says
Placer County coroner’s officials have identified two victims killed in a double homicide in Granite Bay earlier this week as the mother and brother of the suspect, a spokeswoman said.
Deputies were initially called for “suspicious circumstances” to a residence on Lou Place and Oak Leaf Way just after 8 a.m. Monday. A man had barricaded himself inside a home, deputies said.
Suspect Josef Meinzer surrendered to authorities about three hours later. Deputies found two people dead inside after breaching the home.
Janell Meinzer, 67, and Lance Meinzer, 45, have been identified as the homicide victims, said Elise Soviar, a spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, Soviar said.
Meinzer had been scheduled for an arraignment Monday in which he faced two charges of murder. His arraignment at Placer Superior Court was postponed to Nov. 6, according to online court records.
