Double homicide in Granite Bay prompts shelter in place, Placer sheriff says. Man arrested

Police tape at crime scene

A man was detained Monday in connection to a double homicide at a Granite Bay home, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called just after 8 a.m. to Lou Place and Oak Leaf Way after a caller reported “suspicious circumstances,” a news release said. Residents were asked to shelter in place as deputies investigated.

Investigators “gathered information” that a man barricaded himself inside a home, the release said. The suspect surrendered about 11:45 a.m and deputies breached the residence.

They found a dead man and woman, the release said. The Placer County Coroner’s Office will identify the victims after family has been notified.

“We are investigating their deaths as a homicide,” said Elise Soviar, a spokeswoman with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. “It is believed the man we detained is the sole suspect.”

Josef Meinzer, 36, was in custody at South Placer Jail. He faces one charge of murder, according to jail records.
