DUI arrest made after crash killed driver in Rancho Cordova, sheriff’s officials say
A driver has been arrested following a deadly DUI hit-and-run fatal collision Friday night in Rancho Cordova, authorities said.
The collision near Douglas Boulevard and Borderlands Drive involved at least two vehicles and killed a woman driving one of them, who was declared dead at the scene, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said. Three others, one adult and two children have been transported to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to survive, Metro Fire and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
A 33-year-old man was arrested and booked Saturday morning into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony DUI for alcohol and manslaughter involving alcohol or drugs, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said.
The Sheriff’s Office in a social media post Friday night called the incident a “possible hit and run,” though jail records online did not show a charge for hit-and-run. The suspect is ineligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
All four people who were injured were in the same vehicle, according to Metro Fire.
Crime scene and traffic investigators were on the scene Friday night. The Rancho Cordova Police Department, which contracts with the Sheriff’s Office and is staffed by its deputies, is currently investigating the incident.
