Bystanders detain man accused of attempted assault on woman at Roseville Save Mart, police say
A 24-year-old man was detained Thursday in connection with the attempted assault of a woman as she walked into a bathroom at the Save Mart grocery store in Roseville, police said.
The store’s employees and bystanders called police officers about 10:30 a.m. to Save Mart at the Foothill Junction shopping center on Foothills Boulevard, said Lt. Chris Ciampa, a spokesman with the Roseville Police Department.
Shoppers observed a man attempt to assault a woman in her 50s, Ciampa said. She managed to escape the alleged assault and the suspect got away.
But bystanders helped thwart the suspect’s escape before officers arrived, Ciampa said. Officers detained the 24-year-old suspect but man had not been booked into jail as of early Thursday afternoon.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Roseville Police Department at 916-774-5000.
