Davis police investigating ATM robbery incidents at two different downtown banks

Police tape at crime scene

Investigators are searching for suspects accused of either robbing or attempting to rob men just returning from ATMs on the same street in two separate incidents in downtown Davis, police said Wednesday.

The latest incident happened Monday in which a suspect threatened a man sitting in a car in front of Bank of America, police said. The man was threatened with a “sharp object” by a suspect at the E Street location who then stole money, said Lt. Dan Beckwith, a spokesperson with the Davis Police Department.

Beckwith declined to say how much money was taken in this incident.

In a separate attack, a man walked back to his vehicle Nov. 25 after going to Chase Bank near Fourth and E streets, just up the street from Monday’s incident.

A group of suspects assaulted the victim and attempted to take his “property,” police said in a news release. Beckwith added that no money was stolen.

Each incident happened between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Beckwith said.

Residents who see suspicious activity at an ATM are asked to call 911 or the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.

“We are asking the public to be aware of their surroundings and pay close attention to vehicles or individuals acting suspiciously when accessing ATMs,” police said.
