Pedestrian dies after SUV hits him on Sacramento County rural road just east of the river
A pedestrian died after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle Tuesday night on a rural road in Sacramento County just east of Clarksburg, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident was reported about 9:40 p.m. as an unconscious male pedestrian along Highway 160, just north of Scribner Road and east of the Sacramento River, the CHP South Sacramento Area Office announced Wednesday in a news release. The man’s body was on the side of the rural road’s southbound lanes.
CHP investigators determined a 33-year-old Sacramento man was driving a GMC SUV south on Highway 160, also known as River Road.
The CHP said the GMC was moving at the posted speed limit, when the driver saw “a black object” in the southbound lane and felt the passenger side mirror hit the object.
The GMC’s driver stopped the SUV, got out of the vehicle and saw the unconscious pedestrian on the ground, according to the news release. The CHP said the GMC’s driver, along with a passerby who also stopped at the scene, called 911 for help and performed CPR on the unconscious pedestrian until medics arrived.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The CHP said pedestrian did not have any identification on him.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s name and age after he’s been positively identified and his family has been notified.
