Man killed after his truck flips into Northern California canal and sinks, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A man was killed Wednesday after his truck flipped into a Sutter County canal and he sank into freezing water, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A driver noticed an overturned truck in a canal along Pelger Road, near Cranmore Road and called officers with the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office about 8:20 a.m., the CHP said in a news release.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and saw a Ford F-250 about five feet underwater, the CHP said. They helped to retrieve an unresponsive 57-year-old man from the waters and began to render medical aid.

The man died from his injuries, the CHP said. He has not been identified.

There were no witnesses to the crash. The CHP said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Residents who may know the victim are asked to call the Sutter County Coroner’s Office at 530-822-7307.
