A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection to the shooting of a victim who suffered life-threatening injuries at a West Sacramento motel.

The shooting broke out Tuesday evening at the Townhouse Motel on West Capitol Avenue, leaving a male victim with a gunshot wound to his head, police said online. He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Investigators identified a suspect and arrested the person in the 1100 block of West Capitol Avenue, police said.

“This appears to be an isolated incident, and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety,” police said.

Taylor Nelson, a spokesperson with the West Sacramento Police Department, declined to disclose the suspect’s name.

The incident prompted West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero to ask residents to offer their opinions about public safety, as she is planning a series of meetings to hear their input.

“To those feeling unsafe as a result of recent events, I empathize with you and I hope you will reach out to your district representatives with your immediate thoughts and concerns,” she said.
