Carjacking suspect detained in Land Park after reported vehicle assault, Sacramento police say
Sacramento police officers detained a suspect Tuesday accused of being involved in a carjacking on Florin Road and then barricading inside a car in a city neighborhood.
The suspect was involved in a carjacking about 9:30 a.m. on the 6000 block of Florin Road, in the jurisdiction of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, said Officer Allison Smith, a spokesperson with the Sacramento Police Department. The victim did not report serious injuries, she said.
Police officers then were called about an assault with a vehicle in a neighborhood at Burnett Way and Freeport Boulevard in Land Park, a block south of Burnett.
Officers issued several calls for the suspect to leave the vehicle parked on a street in front of a home. Broadway, a bustling corridor, was quiet as police blocked off the intersection with Freeport Boulevard. A helicopter whirred overhead.
The suspect, a female driver, left the vehicle after more than two hours of negotiations, police said. The roadway has reopened.
