Brothers sentenced in 2021 murder of 20-year-old ex-girlfriend at North Sacramento party
Two brothers have been sentenced in connection with the 2021 shooting death of Kiarra George, then 20, at a party in North Sacramento, prosecutors announced Monday.
Milton Collins, 21, who was convicted of second-degree murder last September, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison, said District Attorney Thien Ho’s office. His brother Deandre Collins, 25, was convicted of vandalism and making criminal threats, and sentenced to 16 months in prison, Ho’s office said.
Prosecutors alleged that Deandre Collins, who had previously dated George, went to a party at her home in the 2700 block of Rio Linda Boulevard in the South Hagginwood neighborhood with a gun in his waistband. When she asked him to leave, he went outside to call his brother to pick him up, Deputy District Attorney Sam Nong argued.
The two men later went back into the party, where Deandre Collins broke a window and started fighting with George, prosecutors said in the news release. He dropped the gun, and Milton Collins picked it up and shot George, killing her, the prosecutors said.
Officers responding to the shooting found George with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and took George to a hospital, where later she was pronounced dead.
The Collins brothers were sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White, Ho’s office said.
